An Exploration of Time

Vacation time. Days off of work. Day after day, full of time that is completely free.

Time to rest. Throw away the cares of the day. Time to truly unwind. Time to relax.

Time to lay on my couch with my cats, hold them, act as heated furniture for them to lay on, play with them, enjoying the slowness every minute as it passes by.

Time to dream. Dream of traveling. Dream of going to Vegas to see “Love.” Dream of traveling to Paris. Dream of seeing the Arc du Triumph, the Eiffel Tower.

Time to celebrate my birthday with my family. Brief visits, family dinners to celebrate other birthdays.

Time to do projects around the house. Some important, others just….annoying.

Time to eat my favorite foods, my favorite pizza as well as some cupcakes from my favorite cupcake bakery.

Time to relax, to binge watch all of the Harry Potter movies. I watch the movies once a year. Every time I watch the movies I notice a detail I never noticed before. I love Blu Ray format. It makes spotting the details much easier.

Time to contemplate words. My new favorite word-boom. The word boom, in this meaning, is a verbal exclamation point. For example: “I just paid off my car note! Boom!” Or, “I got the promotion at work! Boom!” Or, “I told you so. Boom!

Time to listen to the “Hamilton” soundtrack, my new favorite musical. It was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who this week won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for “Hamilton.” The musical is in the time of the American Revolutionary War, the 1770s, yet the story is told in several modern musical styles, including Rap, Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz and British pop. Miranda has called “Hamilton” a “love letter to writers”, and he is right. The complexity and eloquence of the libretto of the show is all encompassing and intoxicating. Imagine my surprise when I listened to the soundtrack for the first time and heard the lyric: “…you walked in and my heart went boom!

Time to sit and think, to contemplate life. Time to think about what I want out of life.

Time to dream new dreams. Time to make new goals.

Time to shop. Time to find the perfect birthday present.

Time to savor every moment of my time off of work.

Time to do as I wish, as the moment suits.

Time to take a walk, relish the unnaturally warm weather, breathe in the warm spring air.

Time to wish that…..I had more time.
