(A Letter to the Moon)

Hello Luna my friend. How are you? How have you been? I have been well.

I am sorry that I have not been able to write since your visit a few weeks ago. Things in my corner of the world have been incredibly busy of late. I have to tell you though, I love when you come and pay me a visit. I always smile when I see you in your full state, perfectly positioned in the nighttime sky from my bedroom window.

My family is doing well. My parents and other family members have relocated to the coast, thousands of miles away. They have begun the arduous process of unpacking the boxes containing all of their worldly possessions. They have also begun to hang some of their art pieces, to make their new houses really feel like a home.

Thankfully, I am going to visit my family in a couple of months! While I do not particularly like to fly, I am excited to see my family, their new homes, and the areas in which they have relocated. It is a new part of the country to visit and experience!

Since I saw you last, I published my third book! I have been working on it for a few months now. This book took more time and energy than the last book. While it took longer than I anticipated, I knew I would not publish it until it was ready. It had to be exactly how I wanted it to be. If I am going to spend months on a project, I am going to see it to completion, and do it right.

I have been thinking a lot about the concept of dedication. I have never felt like an especially dedicated person before. However, I have come to the realization that this has been unfair of me to think this way.

For the last two years I have been working on publishing my books. It takes months of preparation to get each book exactly right. That in itself is an example of dedication. I have discovered that dedication is an intrinsic part of being an artist. An artist must have a dedication to their art form, no matter the medium.

Oh my goodness, here I am rattling on and I forgot to tell you that I have news to share….I have been asked to speak at a literary symposium!

The organizers of the event have invited me to make a speech in the symposium. I will introduce myself, talk a little bit about my life so far, my education, how I got into writing, when I began blogging, when I first knew I wanted to be a published author, how I began my publishing business, the advantages to self-publishing my written works (as well as the disadvantages, I suppose), and more. The organizers of the event have asked that I have a packet of information for each person that attends the symposium. They are also giving me the opportunity of my selling my books at the event.

The literary symposium is in October. That is what I have been working on in my spare time-writing my speech, and putting together the packets for each attendee. I am excited to take part in the symposium. I feel proud and deeply honored to have been asked to make a presentation.  This will my first such event in the literary world. I hope it will be the first of many.

Nothing else is new in my world Luna. Life is pretty boring right now. But, that is a good thing. It has been so hectic of late, it is nice to have a little rest. After all, exciting times are coming. I will be taking a trip to the coast, and then giving a presentation in a literary symposium. I think I should rest and relax now. I’m going to be very busy in the coming weeks!

Luna, as always, it has been great talking to you. I will make an effort to write you more often, so it will not be as long between conversations. I am excited about the future. I love knowing you will be there with me.

Take care Luna. Talk to you soon.
Your friend, -E
