Lessons from the year 2015

Image
This is the time of year to reflect on the year, a year in review if you will. I look back on the year 2015, and think about what I have learned in the course of the year that has been: *When the New Year begins with a full moon with a halo around it, it will be a wonderful year. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/01/new-years-moon.html *Breathing is something that many of us take for granted. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-gift-of-breath.html *I really love the color red. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/02/red-i-said.html *Can someone be “overweight” and be healthy? Absolutely. I am living proof. Believe it. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/02/believe-it.html *I am ready for the future. Come what may. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/03/come-what-may.html *I love it when my muse comes to visit. http://letrasalaluna.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-visit-from-muse.html *When people see an injustice occurring, they need to

Look to the Light

Look to the Light (A Holiday Letter to the Moon) Hello Luna,      How are you? It has been some time since I’ve written. I saw you a few weeks ago, in your gorgeous full moon stage. You lit up the nighttime sky. There wasn’t a cloud in sight. The entire stage was yours. You shone beautifully that night. I love your light. How are things for you? Things have been fine for me. The holiday season is upon us. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And that is just fine with me. I remember writing last year about how stressed I felt about the upcoming holiday season. Thankfully, I do not feel that way at all this year. I am ready for Christmas. It has already been a busy season. I began the holiday season with a Thanksgiving feast with my family. I had a migraine that day, which was not fun in the last. However, my headache was finished by the time of the feast. A couple weeks ago I went to a concert that was the perfect way to begin the holiday season; I went to

One Thousand Ninety-Five (1095)

One Thousand Ninety-Five (1095) A Letter to You Hello everyone, I hope you are well. I am sorry for my recent absence from this blog. I have had many problems with my computer. Three weeks later, to make a long story much shorter, my old computer is working again. I did not have to buy a new one as I feared.  I apologize for my being away so long. Now that my computer is working again, I will be able to post things here with greater frequency in the future. In my absence, I have been thinking of things to write about, the first of which I thought I would share today. It was three years ago today that I began this blog. Three years. I wondered, "How many days would that be?" The answer:  One Thousand Ninety-Five days. (1095) So much has happened in those days. I began this blog as a writer and poet; I then became a publisher and author. I have shared my hopes, my dreams, aspirations, vulnerabilities. I have shared my world with you, my thoughts, my views,

For Paris

Image
I was at work when I heard of the attacks in Paris. A person at work told me of the attack.  I did not believe the news at first. They told me that over one hundred people were dead. “From what?” I asked, trying to understand what he was saying. Of course, my brain went to thinking it was a mass shooting scenario. But no, that was not the case. “From a terrorist attack,” the man replied. When I arrived home that night, I watched the national news to find out more about what happened. Details were coming in of the attacks. I sat there in stunned silence, trying to understand what I was seeing on the television screen. To this day I still cannot fully understand it.  I write this today to express my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished in the attacks on Paris last Friday, November 13. For those who survived the attacks, I am grateful you are here to tell your tale. Tell your tale, to everyone who will listen. Your stories give us hope. Your stories rem

The Bully

Image
We all have things that scare us. We all have our fears. Sometimes, our fears turn in to phobias. Whatever your fears and phobias are, I would not share them with anyone that you do not trust implicitly. People can tease you with this knowledge. People can taunt you, torment you, and bully you. The word “bully” defined by the Oxford dictionary as a “person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.” Yet the word bully can be a noun and a verb. Bullying, the acts of a bully, can be emotionally abusive as well as physically abusive. Bullies can appear as friends; they can come from the playground or the board room. Each bully inflicts their own special brand of intimidation and torment. People have even taken their own lives to escape the torment of their bullies. Last week, I was in a big box store shopping for groceries. I decided to go to the Christmas section, to see what lights and greenery were on display. The day in question was before Hallow

The Archive

Image
I have been going through all of my writings, on both of my blogs, and writings that have been private. I have been compiling all of the poems and essays I have written and entering them into files on the computer, which I will eventually convert into books. I have been writing poetry for five years now. It is astonishing to me to see the body of my work, to see how much I have written and shared. I had no idea I had written so much. In my first book, “I am Hope”, I published over seventy poems. To date, I believe I have written enough poetry to fill five more books. That seems quite prolific to me; yet, I am not a writer who writes poetry every day. When I want to write something new, I now check my work. I go back into the archives of my writing, to see if I have already talked about the subject matter or not. I am thankful to have all of my work archived. It will be that much easier for me to consult my writing once it is book form. It has been wonderful for me to perus

Hello everyone, I wanted to write and let you know my first collection of poetry, “I am Hope”, is now available in the Kindle store!   The book is available in paperback and Kindle versions through Amazon. It is also available in PDF version, readable on all devices, through the Silence Community store. If you would like to purchase a copy of the book, please click the links below. Coexist

Image
Today is the 100 Thousand Poets for Change event. This is a global event, which also includes musicians, performance artists, mimes, poets, and artists of every description. Over 100 countries are participating, through poetry readings, demonstrations, festivals, and countless other celebrations. The goal of this event is to bring about tangible, positive change, to benefit our communities and our world. This is my third year participating in the event. Today I have chosen many topics. The title of today’s piece is “Coexist.” I have been wracking my brain to find the right words to say, the right topic to choose for today’s piece, how to say what  I feel and what I believe is right. The first year I participated in this event, I wrote about gun control. Last year I wrote about the wage gap between the sexes. This year, my third year, I did not know what to talk about. There are so many topics that I feel passionate about that I do not know where to start. There are so many top
